Guidelines for kids

Make your haiku three lines long. Make it very short so every word counts. Describe an image you have seen with your eyes. Make the third line a surprise.

Here are some examples:

The cat is sleeping
But little do they know
He is listening
    - Gracie Paullus, Minnesota

An armadillo
Hears a wolf as he walks by
Curls up for safety
    - Kaitlyn, age 5

Long woven branches
Warm hollow home for squirrels
Resting spot for snow
    - Luke, age 8

The sun is shining
It is yellow orange and red
It's shining on me

The wind is howling
It's whispering in my ear
It's telling me a secret
    - Kayla, age 9

The wind blows fiercely
Knocking over all my things
It is a nuisance
    - Stephanie, age 9
